FIRE AND EMERGENCY MANUFACTURERS AND SERVICES ASSOCIATION

Firefighter One

Founded in 2005, Firefighter One (FF1), is a full-line emergency equipment supplier. FF1 handles new fire apparatus, ambulances, rescue boats, specialty vehicles such as high water rescue and mass casualty buses, as well as a full line of fire and rescue equipment.

Company founder and president, Jonathon Van Norman was a fire chief in northern New Jersey in the early 2000s and was experiencing numerous problems securing the gear he needed to equip his fire apparatus. Knowing there must be a better solution, Van Norman started Firefighter One with the goal of providing fire and rescue equipment in a timely manner.

The company started in Van Norman’s basement and today, through constant growth and expansion, now operates out of two facilities. The main office in Sparta has 7500 square feet and includes office, warehouse, and apparatus service bays. A second facility in Browns Mills handles service in central and south New Jersey. Most fire and ambulance service is performed at the customer’s facility. To facilitate that, FF1 operates 8 mobile service vehicles. In addition to being Ferrara, Wheeled Coach, and

Road Rescue service centers, FF1 recently completed its Cummins service center certification. FF1 can perform Cummins warranty work at one of their service centers or at the firehouse. Apparatus and ambulance services provided include preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs, annual pump, or aerial testing, as well as refurbishments.

With most of the staff either current or former firefighters, FF1’s associates are quick to respond when needed, whatever the need may be. And those needs are varied, as the company operates separate equipment, service, apparatus, and ambulance divisions.

The FF1 fire apparatus lineup includes pumpers, tankers, rescues, aerial ladders and platforms, industrial apparatus, and specialty vehicles. FF1 is the Ferrara Fire Apparatus dealer for New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

FF1 ambulances are built by Wheeled Coach and Road Rescue and include Type I, Type II, and Type III. They also represent a line of specialty vehicles, such as mass casualty rigs mentioned earlier and mobile command centers or physician offices. Mobile medical facilities are frequently deployed during emergencies, such as widespread power outages after a major storm.

Fire and rescue equipment offered by FF1 includes Scott SCBA, Fire-Dex turnout, TNT rescue tools, Bullard thermal imaging cameras, Akron Brass, Snap Tite Hose, Hale, Whelen, and PAC Tool Mounts, Super Vac, Ziamatic, Streamlight, Zodiac, and much more.

FF1’s goal is to be the best service provider in the industry by providing consistent and excellent customer satisfaction, maintaining state-of-the-art equipment and vehicles, and building long-lasting relationships with departments. The FF1 Service Team is led by certified foremen and technicians that are highly skilled and committed to efficiency and accuracy and supported by an administrative team dedicated to going above-and-beyond industry expectations and providing exceptional customer service.
