FIRE AND EMERGENCY MANUFACTURERS AND SERVICES ASSOCIATION

PMI is a company founded and run by rescuers, cavers, climbers, rope access technicians and mountaineers. We regard your gear as though we are working alongside you because we are. PMI’s entry into the fire and rescue world came about as the result of an International Association of Fire Fighters white paper on a fatal life safety rope incident that named PMI as a producer of American-made life safety rope made to robust life safety standards.

Life safety rope must be strong, consistent, high quality, long wearing, and easy to handle. Given the frugality of most cavers, it also must be inexpensive to buy. PMI has grown over 40 years to become a leading life safety rope manufacturer, supplying life safety rope to cavers, climbers, mountaineers, rescuers, rappellers, and military forces. Made in the U.S. since the 1970’s PMI ropes are renowned across the globe and can be found in use on the summit of Mt. Everest, in the caves of China, through the dark reaches of Antarctica, inside Asian industrial plants, by municipal rescue squads, and in the European Alps.

PMI prides itself on being a product user with a hands-on perspective. The company has a passion for being involved in harmonizing regulatory standards with what is practical in the field. As a founding member of NFPA 1670 committee on technical rescue PMI works to make the standards usable in real life. PMI is also heavily involved in industrial fall protection and NFPA 1903 and ANZI standards specifically, to try and harmonize the industrial safety world with rescue and to help improve safety. Industrial rescue is not foreign and PMI products are engineered to meet European standards as well. PMI actively participates in the following standards organizations: the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Society of Professional Rope Access Technicians (SPRAT®), the National Association of Tower Erectors (NATE), the National Wireless Safety Alliance (NWSA) and ASTM F32 Committee on Search and Rescue.

PMI’s extensive product line includes rope, webbing, hardware, personal gear, patient care products and prepackaged kits for training. PMI also offers logistics and support products, from gear bags to technical guides.

PMI’s training division, Vertical Rescue Solutions (VRS), works to assure customers that quality gear and instruction go hand in hand. PMI’s VRS instructors have knowledge gleaned from a variety of disciplines: Fire, EMS, Mountain Rescue, Confined Space, Technical Rope Rescue, Cave Rescue, Industrial Rope Access and Rescue. With years of hands-on, real-world experience, our instructors strive to save lives and provide a safer environment for at-height workers and rescuers through quality education and instruction. We strongly believe in participating in the stewardship of the industries we serve.
